A huge thank-you to Mandy Namjou Yom for gifting me her beautiful book Nami’s New Friend, illustrated by Joanne Wong. The timing was perfect—my class has been navigating some friendship struggles, and this story opened up meaningful conversations about kindness and connection.
Nami’s New Friend tells the story of Nami, who has just moved to the U.S. from Korea. Her first day of school is filled with excitement—but also the fear of fitting in when everything feels so unfamiliar. This book captures those feelings so beautifully, while showing how empathy and respect can create deep and meaningful friendships. 🌈
As a teacher in an international school, I always tell my students that friendships take time to grow—and that it’s okay to make mistakes along the way. What matters is how we learn, grow, and repair our relationships.
This book is a must-read for parents, teachers, and kids alike. It’s a heartfelt reminder that kindness is the bridge that connects us all.
