The Paper Kingdom

Daniel had to accompany his parents to a huge office building where they worked as janitors. Daniel’s reluctance to help his parents, slowly diminishes when he hears his parents' imaginative and creative story about the giant building ruled by the King and the Queen and how the dragons make messes. They used these fantasy characters of kings and dragons to encourage Daniel to help them.

I love how the illustrator showed the parents' tired, worried faces depicting how hard people have to work to get by each day – life’s reality and the struggles that many hard-working families face to make a living.

My favourite phrase in this book – “Remember, little bug,” Mama whispered, “Remember to be nice when you become king.” I love how the mother took time to explain to treat people with kindness and respect.

What an imaginative, fun and creative book!
